Workshops
We offer workshops that are directed at helping you with personal growth. The workshops cover issues such as communication skills, assertiveness skills, aggression, relationships and parenting.
About our sessions
Session Time
Sessions generally last from 50 minutes to 1 hour, however, longer or shorter session times can be arranged to suit your needs.
Initial session
The first session is crucial to the ongoing success of counselling. It is in this session that we begin to hear your story. We play an active listening role so that we may understand the issues that you have and how best to resolve them.
It is important that you don't arrive expecting that all your issues will be resolved in the first session.
How many sessions?
This depends on the person and the nature of the issues. Sometimes, issues can be resolved after two or three sessions, however others may require significantly more sessions to resolve their issues.
If you are not happy
No matter whom you decide to be counselled by, it is important that you feel comfortable with that person.
If you have any issues with regards to your counsellor please don't hesitate to discuss them with him/her so that your counsellor can have a better understanding of your needs.
In a situation where you feel that a counsellor is unable to help you in the way that you require, we advise you to seek another counsellor.
Remember, no two counsellors are exactly the same and as with relationships, jobs and many other things in life, some counsellors you will be more comfortable with than others.
Provider Details
Men's Family Services is a private provider.
What is the difference between a public and a private provider?
Public providers are already subsidised by the government and as a result, you cannot use private health cover. Fees are often based upon your yearly income. For example, if you earn $40 000 per year, you would be asked to pay around $40 per session. The higher your income, the higher the fee per session (and vice versa).
Private providers do not receive government subsidies, however you can use private health cover.
If you have private health cover, it can often work out to be less expensive to go to a private provider.
